The challenge
A large shared infrastructure repository made it difficult for application teams to evolve reusable infrastructure components independently and consume predictable releases.
My contribution
- Participated in the overall architecture for transitioning from a monolithic infrastructure repository to a more modular versioned model.
- Co-designed the versioning strategy for Terraform modules, with emphasis on explicit version selection and repeatable consumption.
- Implemented a solution for storing and distributing reusable Terraform modules through JFrog Artifactory.
Architectural approach
01Separate module development and release from downstream consumers.
02Publish managed versioned artifacts instead of relying on direct monorepo references.
03Enable teams to upgrade intentionally rather than consuming unpinned changes.
Outcome & impact
The resulting design supported more controlled release management, reuse and dependency management across application teams. The number of adopting engineers and modules has not been publicly quantified.
